Lecture 1 – Google Sheets
Google Sheets is an online spreadsheet software that allows you to organize large amounts of data, create custom reports, automate calculations, and collaborate with others. It’s part of the Google Workspace suite of products.
Why to use Google sheet?
It’s absolutely Free. It works across all platform/devices, all data are stored on cloud. Unlike Excel it does not require subscription and flexible to use.
Common Terms to Know!
Let’s get familiar with some of common terms used within Google Sheets.
- Column: A set of vertical cells.
- Row: A set of horizontal cells.
- Cell: An area on Google Sheet where data can be entered.
Understanding the Google Sheets Toolbar: Undo and Redo last changes made, Data format for currency, percentages, decimal places etc. Text format, add cell borders, add links, comments, charts, filters or functions, title space.
How to open Google sheet from the scratch?
Steps: Go to App launcher —> Sheets —> Click on [+] sign to open fresh sheet.
How to open a new google sheet?
Steps: File —> New —> Spreadsheet. Here is sample as how to feed data in cells.
Activities: Play the above video and try it your own.
Sum notes: Select the empty cell to perform the calculation. Click the Functions shortcut (=) Click SUMClick and drag over the range. Press Enter.
How to import existing sheets?
Steps:File —>Import —> choose the file you want to work with.
How to turn on offline access?
Open Google Drive. At the top right, click Settings. Turn on Offline setting. If you are using Microsoft Edge, you will be redirected to the Chrome Web Store to download the Google Docs Offline extension. To work offline, open Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.
Turn off offline access Open the Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides home screen. Click Menu Settings. On the right, turn off Offline.
Tip: If you turn off offline access for Docs, Sheets, or Slides, you will also turn off offline access for the rest.
