Introduction to AirJaldi
What is AirJaldi?
AirJaldi is the brand name used by Rural Broadband (RBB), a nationwide Internet Service Provider (ISP) registered in India as a private limited company since 2009.
AirJaldi services
AirJaldi serves organizational, enterprise, institutional, and individual clients by providing affordable and reliable Internet connectivity and related services through wireless and fiber optics.
AirJaldi Networks
AirJaldi is currently operating in 9 Indian states (Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka), has 40 networks, and serves more than 2 lakh registered users and beneficiaries. Projects we have done so far: AirJaldi has carried out multiple projects. Some of the major projects are: The APNIC Foundation
AirJaldi and the APNIC Foundation have been working closely together for almost ten years. Our joint work included the development of technical tools for more economical use of the internet, tools for better network management, and lately, a project for providing connectivity to various areas in Arunachal Pradesh.
Microsoft Airband: The Microsoft Airband Initiative advances digital equity—access to affordable internet, affordable devices, and digital skills—as a platform for empowerment and digital transformation across the world. In addition to connectivity, the AirJaldi and Airband teams are cooperating on developing suitable offerings for rural areas in areas of women empowerment, economic development, and the introduction of technological solutions to rural internet operations. Facebook’s Express Wi-Fi (XWF):
AirJaldi began using public Wi-Fi hotspots in rural areas in 2014. We were looking for ways to provide people, mostly in underserved and unserved rural areas, with cheap and easy access to broadband services. In 2015, we became the first global partners of Facebook’s Express Wi-Fi (XWF) initiative, which shared similar aims. Together, we developed a technical and economic delivery model and served over 300,000 users in hundreds of locations in northern and eastern India. AirJaldi still operates hotspot services in select rural areas in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh under our own brand, JaldiFi.
Productive Paths: Productive Paths is a program aimed at providing individual women and women-led organizations with access to the internet, tools, training, and tech support. The program, which is implemented by AirJaldi with support from USAID and DAI, is open to all women and women-led organizations within AirJaldi’s network reach.
Trees for the future: Since 2017, coinciding with India’s Independence Day on August 15th, our team members across India have taken the initiative to plant trees in and around the areas we work, often in partnership with local forest departments, schools, and other organizations. We feel this is one of the best ways to celebrate Independence Day and show that our commitment to sustainability and growth goes beyond broadband connectivity.
